Hello & Welcome to today’s episode of Dream Business Dream Life.
So today we’re talking about something we all secretly know we need but often resist. Accountability.
I know, I know the word can sound a bit heavy, like your old boss waving their finger at you. But stay with me, because accountability is actually one of the most powerful tools for transformation.
Accountability isn’t about someone nagging you it’s about someone not letting you play small.
It’s why I started my Bum Kick Club but this episode isn’t a pitch. It’s about giving you real value, helping you understand why we struggle to take action alone, and why letting someone hold you accountable can completely change the game.
Discipline isn’t a personality thing, it’s a structure. And accountability gives you that structure.
Ok, let’s be honest here. How many of you have set a goal, felt super inspired, maybe even bought all the gear for it… and then within a few weeks, nothing. Diddly Squat. No action. No showing up. No doing the thing. You’re back to old habits.
Yeah, me too.
And here’s why…when it’s just us, we’re sneaky. We say things like, ‘I’ll do it tomorrow,’ or ‘It’s not that important,’ or my personal favourite, ‘I’ll wait until Monday.’ We always start a diet on a Monday right and those business targets well they can’t start mid month…that’s just wrong.
And you know what? We actually believe our own excuses. We convince ourselves it’s logical. It’s quite normal to eat all the snacks before you start the diet, it’s totally acceptable to wait until the 1st of the month to actually promote that new offer….actually maybe we need to wait until the next quarter cos this one is pretty pants already.
You’re not lazy, you’re just too good at believing your own excuses.
So I want you to think of the last time you gave up on something you really wanted to do. What was the story you told yourself to make it feel okay to quit?
Discomfort maybe? Fear maybe? Or maybe you have no idea why you just keep putting it off.
Our brains are wired for safety. So our brain tells us to stay safe, stay small, wait as it is not going to feel great. So when we try to make changes on our own the odds are against us…its you verses your brain…1 on 1…nobody reassuring you it will be ok. So you listen to your brain even if you deep down you don’t want to.
Accountability changes the entire environment you’re working in. It’s like switching from running uphill in mud…to running with someone next to you saying, ‘Come on, we’ve got this.’
If you could’ve done it alone, you would’ve done it by now
Accountability doesn’t just help you do more it actually changes who you become.
First off, it gives you clarity. When you say your goals out loud to someone else, they suddenly become real. You can’t keep them as those fuzzy little ‘one day I’ll do xyz’ ideas anymore…they’re out there now.
Then there’s consistency. You’re not always going to feel motivated. Nobody does. But when you know you’ve got to check in with someone, you show up differently. You don’t want to be the person saying, ‘Yeah, I didn’t do it…again.’
Accountability actually builds resilience. When you’re alone, a setback feels like failure. You miss a workout, you mess up your routine, and boom it’s game over. But with someone alongside you, it’s just a little detour. You laugh, you correct the course and you keep going.
And over time you start to shift your identity. Every single time you follow through, even in tiny ways, you start to see yourself as someone who actually does what they say they’ll do. And that shift? That’s life-changing. Because once you believe you’re that kind of person that tales action and gets results, everything else gets easier.
Imagine how different your year would look if you had someone checking in every week. What would you finally follow through on?”
I saw too many brilliant people beating themselves up for not sticking to things. They thought they were lazy, or undisciplined, or just ‘not the kind of person who finishes stuff.’
But that wasn’t true at all. They just didn’t have support.
So I thought what if there was a space where we keep each other honest, celebrate the wins, and yeah, sometimes give each other that loving little bum kick we all need?
That’s exactly why I launched The Bum Kick Club…it’s not just about ticking off tasks, it’s about actually starting to believe you can do this.
You don’t need more willpower. You don’t need the perfect planner, or another Monday start. What you need is accountability.
Because accountability doesn’t let you shrink your goals down. It moves you forward.
I do not care how you hold yourself accountable, come and join my Bum Kick Club, join someone else’s program that gives you accountability. find an accountability buddy…someone who needs it just as much as you….just do something as it honestly can change your business and your life quite quickly.
Transformation doesn’t happen because you magically find more motivation. It happens because you set up the foundations for success. And accountability is the foundation that changes everything.
I hope this gave you a nudge maybe even a kick up the bum to think differently about accountability.
And if you’re curious about the Bum Kick Club, come connect with me but either way, don’t go it alone.
You’re capable of so much more than you think…you just need someone in your corner.
Thank you for listening; see you next time.
