Hello and welcome to today's episode of Dream Business, Dream Life. Today I'm joined by Lisa Williams, also known as the Vision Board Queen. Lisa is a trained Vision Board facilitator who works with businesses to create the blueprints for their dream life, which as you know is right up my street. Hello Lisa, how are you?
Hi Emma, thank you so much for having me today. Super, super excited. Right, as I always do, we're going to dive straight in. I'm going to hand straight over to you Lisa to tell us who you are and why you started your business. Thank you, Emma.
So as Emma said, I am Lisa Williams, also known as the Vision Board Queen.
And my mission is to help as many businesswomen to create the blueprints for their dream life using that Vision Board. And I started, uh, creating and working with Vision Boards around 2017. And it was At a place in my own life that I was in a very dark place and I was introduced to the world of personal development.
And as through that journey, I stumbled across vision boarding and as always a dreamer and a, what do they daydreamer they say? I was always one of those people who thought I'd live in a mansion when I was like six years old and I dreamed of all these fancy things. Um, and vision boards helped me, uh, bring that, um.
Lovely in a child back to life through me and I have absolutely loved working with vision boards ever since from my own personal journeys. I have achieved things like my dream home, uh, my rainbow baby, um, my business and many other things, holidays, many other things in between as well.
Absolutely amazing, absolutely amazing.
And that's just reminding me of something from my childhood. I remember when I was a little girl, I must have wanted to be an interior designer because I remember I used to sit and draw rooms and I'd choose what colour the wallpaper was going to be, what colour the carpet was. So that was obviously my early vision boarding, wasn't it?
And I didn't even realise it existed back then. We all do it,
we just don't know that we do it.
Exactly. Exactly. So tell us a little bit. What, what is a vision board? So
a vision board is basically a collection of your dreams and your desires, and it is presented in the form of imagery. So it could be an image of a dream of desire.
It could be the wording of a dream and desire could be the feeling of a dream and desire, and it's put together to design to serve as a source of inspiration and motivation. To achieve those goals that you have.
Fabulous. But it's not just about a pretty vision board, is it? There's a lot more to a vision board.
I absolutely love a vision board, but I, I find it really sad that some people think that is it. I put this, you know, cut my little bits and pieces out and stick them on, make them absolutely fantastic and that is this, but that's not it, is it?
No, absolutely not. And anyone can stick pictures on a board, you know, a two year old child could do that.
Uh, but what actually works with the vision board is what I like to see is underneath the vision board, the things like the mindset work that we need to do to believe in ourselves, to then believe in our dreams and our desires. You know, we might have blocks around certain things like money blocks around money and business blocks around salad.
So there's lots of things that we might need to work through around that. But the vision board is there to give us that motivation to work through that mindset, all those blocks, or it could be just like, you might want to step into a more spiritual aspect of tapping in with the universe and being in more flow.
And again, that's a journey. It's not something you just pick up overnight and you'd be able to run with it, but the vision board is there to help you on that journey.
Yeah, love that. Help you on the journey. And I think that's an important thing, isn't it? Absolutely is. So do you need to be creative to creative ish and bored.
Do you think it's something that somebody who's not creative or doesn't think they're creative can do? Or do you think it's sort of more drawn to people who are creative? Any, anyone can
do it, okay? But some people who are creative might have that block to think they can't do it. And that's the first hurdle that we need to get over, isn't it?
Anyone can stick some pictures on a board, okay? You don't have to be creative. And generally what you'll find is when you're creating the board, the board will represent your personality. So if you are a creative person, The board is going to look very creative and very flowing. And maybe you might have a certain theme run through it.
If you're not creative, it's probably going to look very simple and that's absolutely fine. There's no right or wrong way to actually design the vision board itself. But as long as you're able to actually connect with that vision board and work with the vision board, that's all that matters.
Yeah. So a vision board doesn't have to be a physical thing.
It could be electronic or.
Yeah. So your vision board could be obviously a physical board. It could be a pin board. It could be a marker board with like a brain map on, could be in a box. It could be inside a book. It could be electronically by a, um, a screensaver or an app that you've got. It could be any way, but the intention is putting those images together to put that vision out there.
Love it. And would you say a vision board should be on display? You should be able to see it all of the time? Sorry, I'm throwing a thousand questions at you here, aren't I?
I personally think it should be on display, but not everybody connects with it like that. So it's sometimes it's a bit trial and error.
Like I've got a few clients who have a vision board inside a box. I've got a few clients who use a book, uh, like a, uh, scrapbook as their vision board and they put, um, images inside that. And, but that's how they connect with it. So you've got to look at your personality and how does your personality work?
Now for me, I'm quite, uh, motivate, like I'm quite motivated. So I'm very self motivated. I am a generator as a personality trait. So I'm very much, I need to see it. I need to see what I need to do. I need to see the actions. I like, I also have, um, a board that once I achieve something, I stick it on an achievement board so that I can see that achievement.
I can see the journey because that inspires me to take more actions, but not everybody works like that. So it's finding what works for you and your personality and what sits right with you.
I love that idea of an achievement board. What a fantastic thing to do. I've never, never thought about that one before, but I love that.
That's it. That's coming out later. That is coming out later. Absolutely love that. So as Most of our listeners are business owners. Um, so as business owners, what would you say would be the reasons that if they haven't already thought about a vision board, they should be thinking about perhaps creating a vision board?
Yeah, that's a really good question Emma, because some people think that it's just They're airy fairy woo side of stuff, but it actually isn't. It's a really good tool to use to set goals. Okay. And as business owners, we should be setting those goals and we should be working towards those goals. So your vision board can be a really good strategy to use for your goal setting because you're not only a set in the goal, you're visualizing the goal.
Okay. You're also using things like affirmations on your vision board and wording to empower that goal and strengthen that mindset. It is such a powerful tool to use as a strategy element to achieving that goal. And even like athletes. have visualized the winning the race before they've even run it. If you want to achieve something in your business, you visualize achieving that before you've achieved it.
And the vision board can really help you with that.
Yeah, absolutely. I always say, if you can dream it, you can do it. And I think the vision board is that absolute gap between the two, isn't it? So you can actually visualize where you're wanting to take yourself. So when you first started vision boarding, I know you said it earlier on that you've done, your vision board has helped you to give you lots of things, your home, your business, your rainbow baby.
So when you first started, what would you say were the hardest things about Going from never doing it to actually that becoming not only what you did, but what you turn into a business.
Yeah.
Um,
so I'll, I'll give a little story. So one of the first things that I put on my vision board was, um, a selfie with Gary Barlow.
So I'm. I'm a huge Take That fan. I have been since I went to my first concert at nine years old. And I remember creating my first vision board and I remember putting, right, if this works, I'm going to get this selfie. Yeah. Yeah. And I managed to get a ticket to his book launch. Now there was only a thousand tickets available and any Take That fan, that's not a lot of tickets for Take That.
So obviously I managed to get a ticket and that was the first hurdle. I was like, right, I've got a ticket. I'm going to be in a smaller room with him. I'm going to have more of a chance of getting this selfie. And there was 10 golden tickets. To get a meet and greet with him at his book launch. And they were put randomly inside books at the event.
And the person I went with wasn't the person I was meant to go with on the day. And the whole day I was like, right, I'm going to get this ticket. I'm going to get this ticket. I'm going to get this golden ticket. And even I have my daughter who was about five at the time. I'm a husband manifesting me to get this golden ticket.
And we got there and. I didn't get a golden ticket in my book, but the person I went with did, but she only came for me because the person I was meant to go with pulled out. So she gave me her golden ticket and it was just like, okay, this really does work. Okay. That was my eye opener to this actually works now.
I'm going to use this tool as best as I can and learn as much as I can about it. And that's exactly what I did. Um, I then went on to train as a facilitator. I then obviously implemented it into my business. And then, um, in 2020, I created my whole business from it. But one of the first things that I did learn, which was another lesson was the trusting in it.
Sometimes, especially as business owners, we tend to try and, um, control things like we, we're going to do this launch here. We're going to do that launch there. We're going to have this here. We're going to have that there. And sometimes that's not meant to be the right time for it. So Rather than pushing through in an energetic, like, push towards something that isn't meant to be, sometimes it's believing that, right, okay, it's not right for now, but it will be right for later.
And sometimes we do have to listen to that, those pushes and stuff, but trusting the process is one of the biggest things that held me back for a while. Uh, once I realized that that's, That's kind of to have to let go of that, then that really did make a huge difference.
I love that. Bit of a funny story about Gary Barlow.
I love take that by the way I've seen them live. I don't know if it's two or three or perhaps even four times I don't know. Absolutely love them. But many years ago, I, I, I, I live not far from where Robbie Williams was born. I live in a similar area to him. Um, so there was, there used to be a nightclub Called The Place, in Hanley, which was right near to where Robbie was born.
Um, and we were there one night. I was, I was only young, it was before I'd even had Becky. So I probably shouldn't say I was in a nightclub at that age. But anyway, I was in a nightclub, um. And there was this band on the stage and we were, they were there and they were dancing around, chucking themselves around and I remember saying to some of the people at the with, who on earth are these people, you know, what are they doing?
They've got no chance in life, you know, becoming successful or doing anything. They're just chucking themselves around on the stage. It was take that, take that. It was like, and there I am, you know, a few years later screaming at a concert, watching them. So it's funny. Is that how funny is that? They were clearly at that point, manifesting vision board in that they were big stages.
dingy little nightclub in Hanley with people like me thinking, who on earth are these people? They're just so bouncy. Anyway, that's my funny story about, um, Gary Barlow. That's called Activision 40. You're giving me too many memories of my childhood today. This is quite spooky, quite spooky. One of the things that you mentioned there, um, was that you'd got your husband and your daughter manifesting for you.
Do you think that's one of the key things that goes alongside vision boarding or goal setting for that matter? Because as you say, the two are the same thing, aren't they, in a way?
No, I don't think you need family and friends to manifest for you. I think it was just because it was, because they knew how much that was going to mean to me.
That's why they got on board. It wasn't, It wasn't that they needed to do that. You can absolutely do it on your own. You don't need that. But having people around you who support your vision is really important, especially within business. You know, having those connections, those business, um, tribe as such having that around you is really important because they're going to shout, they're going to be wanting to cheer you on, you know, for, to, to achieve your vision.
So imagine like now I've, I've watched two books and they've both become bestsellers. So, you know, imagine now if I didn't have that tribe behind me who wanted me to get to bestseller, then that probably wouldn't have happened as much as I visualize that you do have to have that, that energy through you and through other people to help you with certain things.
But absolutely, you can do it on your own, but that, that support is definitely going to make a big difference.
Yeah, absolutely. I think the people you surround yourself with do make a massive difference in life and business. Don't they? It's helps to lift you up when, when you need that sort of thing. So just a couple of final things to talk about before we come into the wrap up.
Um, and I think one of them has to be the, we've got this vision board created. We've, we've set our goals in effect. What are some of the things that we need to be doing to make sure that These things are moving forward. It is, is, is a vision board a high level thing and then there's something that sits underneath that?
No, uh, you The biggest thing is to stay connected with the vision board. Okay, so the connection is the, like the road, the map, the road to it. So your vision board is like the sat map, you've programmed in your destination, you know where you're going. But your connection to it is, you know, showing up each day, taking the left, the right turn, the roundabout, you know, we all go around roundabouts, we all go up and down mountains, you know, so the journey to get there, but staying connected with the vision board is really, really important.
And there's a few ways that I would absolutely recommend doing this is obviously one, making sure that you actually working with the vision board at each day. Um, this could be just through like, visualizations. It could be through using things like journaling, could be through writing your daily gratitudes, could be just through a meditation, whatever way you find works for you.
The ones that I use the most is visualization and journaling. Um, but it's just making sure that you are on. In alignment with that vision because there's no point in working towards something you actually don't want. So it's making sure that you're staying connected because what I do find quite a lot Emma is January is a very prominent time for this is people create a vision board because it's January come to the end of the year.
Oh, I've not done anything with that vision board. I've not achieved nothing, but have you worked with it? Have you used it? That's like saying you've got a friend and you've not picked up the phone for them for a year. You know, you wouldn't do that. So why are you doing it to yourself and your dreams? So it's staying connected with that, you know, making sure that you are utilizing.
And one question I actually got this week, which was a quite an interesting question was, I'm really busy. How do I fit it in? So my answer back was, How often do you boil the kettle a day? And they said about four or five times said, well, that's four or five minutes that you've got to visualize your something off your vision board.
Which is a great way to think about it. And I think it's not thinking about it as something else to do. It's integrating it into what you're doing every day because it's your dream, isn't it? Yeah. And it will forever be your dream if you don't do it. Do something about it, find the time or whatever it is that you need to do.
So I absolutely love that. Right. We are running out of time. So at the end of every episode, I asked my guest to share with us a top tip. So Lisa, what is your top tip?
My top tip would be to learn to believe in yourself. Once you believe in yourself, you'll be able to believe in your dreams and your desires.
