Ready to live the dream? Then let’s get stuck in…

Hello & Welcome to today’s episode of Dream Business Dream Life.

If you have listened to my podcast for a while or you have been in my world any other way you will know that I talk about living the dream a lot.

I honestly believe every single person can have their dream but recently someone challenged me around this, and I want to talk to you about that as I think it is possibly something others are thinking too.

Now maybe you think I lives in a fantasy world where it is all sunshine and rainbows…maybe you think I have read one too many positive psychology books when I say that I think everyone can live their dream.

But lets be crystal clear I have never said it easy, I have never said everyday is perfect; my goodness I have had some absolutely hideous days, weeks, months even but that does not mean I cannot be living my dream life at the same time.

Let me go back to the challenge that I had…this person that challenged me was feeling very down; their business was struggling; they had no idea how they would pay the mortgage in a few months’ time and to add to the problems they had been diagnosed with an illness too. Not a life-threatening illness but definitely a life changing one.

So, for them this was definitely not their dream life, and I absolutely get it. They were having an awful time and in awful times it is hard to see beyond the awful.

But this is where we have to work with what we have got. This is where we have to accept that some things we simply cannot control, and we have to get clear on what the dream looks like taking into consideration this thing that is out of our control.

We cannot stop people becoming poorly, we cannot prevent loved ones from dying…I honestly wish we could.

But I believe we have 2 options…option one is to let something we cannot control ruin the rest of our life or we can work with what we have got…our new normal.

When we lost Becky I could not see a happy future, a future where I could say I was living my dream as Becky was such a big part of my dream.

Today, my sadness is no less, my urge to have her here is no less but I am slowly adapting to my new normal and my dream has had to change to take this into account.

Of course, the hardest part was getting comfortable with those changes. Accepting that I had to find a new normal.

But whether I want them or not they are real life and I have to either spend the rest of my life wishing things were different or doing the exact thing I know Becky would want and that is doing my best with what I have.

I can still live my dream life; be it a slightly different one than it was a few years ago.

So let’s think about that concept in terms of the original challenge.

This person could not change the fact that their new normal is the illness…they have to make life changes…that is fact…they cannot control it but some of the other stuff they absolutely can control.

If your business is not making money…you can change that.

If your financial situation is not good…you can change that.

If you are working so hard you cannot even start to think about what you need to do first never mind do it…then you can change that.

You see there are things in life, and business that we can control.

We choose how we spend our time, we choose how much effort and consistency we put into our business, we choose who we spend our time with.

And this is where we can live our dream.

But it is important to remember that our dream is not always the absolute dream as let’s be honest if we could do anything with absolutely no limitations we would all wish for perfect health, fabulous relationships and all that jazz bit life sometimes throws lemons at us so we have to be ready to move with those lemons rather than let them stop our dreams dead in their tracks.

If you have a dream…go and make it happen…stop making excuses, stop looking for reasons it is not possible for you because I am telling you now anything is possible if you really want it AND you do the work.

So there you go a bit of tough love today but I think it is an important message as I want more people to dream big.

I want more people to live their dream life and own their dream business and what I see too much is people not allowing themself to do just that.

So my take away for you today is to stop letting the things you cannot control take charge of your future; if you want something find a way to make it happen…there is always a way…even if that has to come with a little bit of compromise.

Thank you for listening; see you next time…
